December Superintendents' Council meeting canceled
The SELPA Superindents' Council meeting scheduled for December 5 has been canceled. The next meeting will be held on January 9.

This year's Winter Conference is January 12-14, 2006
The Region 1 & 4 Conference Committee, in partnership with Sonoma State University, invite you to the 2006 winter institute, Winter's Reflection: Improving the Climate. The institute will open Thursday, January 12 with a keynote speaker, followed by a variety of afternoon presentations. Friday morning sessions will be repeated in the afternoon. Procedural Handbook available online
The SELPA Superintendents' Council adopted the Special Education Procedural Handbook (pdf) in November 2004 for use by districts. This handbook provides direction on how to comply with the referral, assessment, IEP, and three-year reevaluation process.

The Sonoma County SELPA has put together a side-by-side comparison of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) of 1997 and its 2004 version. This 213-page document is a comprehensive study in how IDEA has changed and what it means for schools. It is available as a PDF or Word document.
