Aiming High

Progress Monitoring

Aiming High is dedicated to raising the academic achievement of English learners in Sonoma County public schools. Participating districts and community partners are working together with a goal of substantially accelerating language acquisition and academic achievement among those students who are classified as English learners in our schools.

Aiming High partners have committed to ongoing progress monitoring to gauge the extent of their impact over the long term. The administration of the California Standards Tests (CSTs) provides the basis for an annual assessment of progress. The goal for each participating school and district (and the county as a whole) is to increase the percentage of English learners scoring at or above proficient on the CSTs in language arts and mathematics by three percentage points annually.

2010-11 Progress Report

District Level Report
District-level progress data is compiled annually by SCOE and is presented in this Annual Report, District Data, 2010-11 (pdf).

County Level Report
At the September 30, 2011 Executive Council meeting, SCOE Assistant Superintendent Nancy Brownell presented this Aiming High Progress Report (pdf), including data that illustrated the growth in English learner achievement, from 2003 to 2011. The report also focused on district and county progress in raising English learner achievement, comparison of Aiming High to non-Aiming High districts, and English learner enrollment in algebra.

The following charts illustrate the growth in English learner proficiency for all Aiming High districts, 2003-11, as compared to the goal of increasing the percent proficient by three percent annually.
