Two SCOE teachers die in boating accident

04/20/2015 - We are sorry to share the sad news that two longtime Alternative Education teachers passed away in a boating accident over the weekend: Rick Hargreaves, who taught in SCOE court and community schools for over 18 years, and Dyan Kelly, who retired last year after 34 years at SCOE. Rick, known as “Coach” by his students, was an instructor at Amarosa Academy and Dyan taught at that site from its opening day in 2011 until her retirement. Out of respect for these employees, the flags at our Skylane office and at Amarosa Academy are displayed at half-staff today. Crisis support personnel are at Amarosa Academy to help the Alternative Education staff and students cope with their grief over this tragedy.

At this time, we do not have information about funeral arrangements or know where condolences should be sent. Please keep their families and our Alternative Education staff in your thoughts.
