Project LEAD
Project LEAD: Leading Educators in Academic Discourse is a three-year research project funded by a California Mathematics and Science Partnership Grant that began in January 2010. It is a collaborative project designed to develop mathematics teaching and leadership skills among educators from Sonoma County elementary and secondary schools. Participating teachers commit to three years of professional development and agree to document the processes and structures they use to engage students in rigorous mathematics learning. The grant also supports their development as mathematics leaders and incorporates strategies to assist them in sharing their skills with others.
Bellevue Union School District is the lead agency for the Project LEAD grant. District and agency partners include:
Bellevue Union School District
California Mathematics Project
Healdsburg Unified School District
Lawrence Hall of Science, UC Berkeley
North Bay Mathematics Project
Petaluma City School District
Santa Rosa City Schools
Sonoma County Office of Education
Sonoma State University

How-To Video Guides
iMovie Basics: These seven videos introduce iMovie and provide basic how-to support for Project LEAD participants using this program.
Intro to iMovie: Get oriented to iMovie '09 (and/or iMovie '11) as you are introduced to the built-in assistance that can help make your iMovie experience successful. You'll also learn how to set up preferences so your editing projects run smoothly and result in successful products.
iMovie – Importing Video: iMovie can import video from a variety of sources, including camcorders and video files. This clip illustrates how to bring footage into iMovie for editing.
iMovie – Getting Ready to Edit: Get oriented to the iMovie workspace and learn how organize, name, and manipulate your video clips in iMovie to produce a final edited piece.
iMovie – Trim Edit: One of the easiest edits to make is a trim edit; that is, removing unwanted footage from the beginning and/or end of a clip. This video takes you through a trim edit sequence step-by-step.
iMovie – Combination Edit: Sometimes the final video requires assembly of multiple portions or multiple clips into one "combination edit." Learn how to execute a multi-step combination edit in this session.
iMovie – Transitions, Titles, and Export: Find out how to use the varied and professional transition, titling, and exporting features in iMovie to polish your final product.
Adding Video Clips to the Project LEAD Website: Here are two video guides for Project LEAD participants who want to upload video to the Project website.
Uploading Video Clips to the Calaxy Website: The California High Speed Network (HSN) provides hosting services for participating California educators. Learn how to access the Calaxy hosting services and upload video for viewing.
Pasting Embed Code in the Project LEAD Lesson Study Portal: The California HSN Calaxy website can host video that other sites can link to by using the "embed" HTML code. Learn how to take advantage of this resource with this how-to clip.
Using FlipShare Software: These four videos review installation of the FlipShare software, working in the FlipShare environment, and moving clips to your computer.
Installing FlipShare Software: The FlipShare software is on the camera itself and can be up-and-running in a matter of minutes.
FlipShare Main Screen Elements: This video provides a basic orientation to the software’s navigation pane, workspace, action bar, progress box, and program menus.
FlipShare Workspace Options: The workspace element of the FlipShare main screen has several options that allow users to customize the look and operation of the software.
Saving Movie Clips to Your Computer: Once you have video on your camera, you’ll want to move the video to your computer for archiving and editing.
Trim Edit with FlipShare Software: Now that the video clips have been saved to your computer, FlipShare software can be used for quick and simple edits. One common technique is the trim edit. Learn how to trim edit, step-by-step, in this sequence.
Combination Edit with FlipShare Software: When you select a number of sections from an original video source clip and combine them to make an edited version, it's known as a combination edit.
Up and Running with the Flip Video Ultra Camcorder: The following videos provide Project LEAD participants with technical guidance on using the Flip Video cameras.
Getting Started: Load two AA batteries into the Flip Video Ultra camcorder and you are ready to go.
Turning on the Camera: Once the batteries are installed, turn the camera on, orient yourself to the display screen information, and get ready to record.
Filming: Using the controls on the back of the camcorder, it takes only a couple of clicks to begin recording and storing your videos.
Viewing Videos: The video you shoot is stored in the camcorder and available for viewing on the built-in screen.
Deleting Video Clips: When you need room for more video and have stored the clips you want on your computer, it’s time to free up space on the camera.
