Sonoma County Office of Education

High school STEM interns recognized

08/02/2013 - At its August 1 meeting, the Sonoma County Board of Education recognized participants of the 2013 Summer High School Internship Program (SHIP). SHIP was created by SCOE and Sonoma State University’s School of Science and Technology to inspire interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among high school students. Only the most talented students are chosen to participate in the program.

Coupled with the opportunity to work on challenging projects using state-of-the-art research and development facilities, the interns’ interaction with faculty and students in a university setting proved to be a rewarding experience for all participants this year. The student interns for 2013 came from schools across Sonoma County:

Evan Barnell, Montgomery High School
Audrey Chan, Pathways Charter School
Shin Mei Chan, Casa Grande High School
Jessica Garcia, Roseland University Prep
Daniel Grubb, Rancho Cotate High School
Alex Hong, Santa Rosa High School
Christopher O'Connor, Healdsburg High School
Axay Patel, Cloverdale High School
Carol Shi, Maria Carrillo High School
Esther Unti, Healdsburg High School
Diane Vivio, Montgomery High School
