Sonoma County Office of Education

Special training for parents of English learners

02/28/2014 - ParentsThe Sonoma County Office of Education is co-sponsoring a special training for parents serving on District English Learner Advisory Committees (DELACs) and other parent leaders interested in learning how they can be involved in decision-making about programs and services for English learners under the new Local Control Accountability Plan process.

Effective this year, districts must obtain community input and engage their DELAC representatives in the development of budgets and decisions about how to serve their English learner students. This session will explain this key role and help parents understand how they can become involved in this new process at their school or district.

Parents from all Sonoma County school districts are invited to attend this free workshop on Thursday, March 13, 5:00-8:00pm, at Elsie Allen High School, 599 Bellevue Avenue, Santa Rosa. The session will be conducted in Spanish, with food and childcare provided for children in kindergarten and elementary grades. Download a flier for this event, in English and Spanish (pdf)

Other sponsors of the event include Californians Together, Santa Rosa City Schools, Migrant Education, the Boys and Girls Club, California Rural Legal Assistance, California Association for Bilingual Education, and California Latino School Boards Association.
