Mission
The Sonoma County Office of Education’s mission is to foster student success through service to students, schools, and the community. As one of 58 county offices of education in California, SCOE functions as an educational service agency and strategic partner to the 40 school districts in Sonoma County and their 177 schools.

Agency CEO
Steven D. Herrington, Ph.D., is the elected Sonoma County Superintendent of Schools. He provides countywide leadership for the K-12 public school system and acts as the chief executive officer of the Sonoma County Office of Education.

County Board of Education
The Sonoma County Board of Education has specific duties related to the Sonoma County Office of Education and countywide educational matters, including approval of SCOE’s annual budget, service as the governing board for SCOE’s Alternative Education programs, and responsibility to hear expulsion and inter-district transfer appeals.

Sonoma County Schools
Sonoma County provides public education to nearly 71,000 students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. The county is divided into 40 school districts, which operate a total of 177 schools.
