Donors Support Schools Across the Region

SchoolsRule Sonoma County, the SCOE fundraising initiative launched in November 2023, gave out more than $166,000 in donations in its second annual distribution to Sonoma County education foundations, school districts, and charters.

To help support students in ALL Sonoma County schools, this fundraising effort distributes the money it raises countywide, on behalf of every student. Every dollar donated goes directly to schools. Funding from the initiative’s first year went to support a range of programs all over the county, from new costumes in the baile folklórico program at Cesar Chavez Language Academy in Santa Rosa to in-ear translators for multilingual students at Horicon Elementary in Annapolis in west Sonoma County. Other supported projects include funding a trip by Sonoma Valley High students to a model United Nations conference and play-based learning initiatives at Evergreen Elementary in Rohnert Park as well as Cali Calmécac Language Academy in Windsor.

Sonoma County has dozens of educational foundations or other organizations that raise money on behalf of students of a particular district or school. But every school or district

has different levels of support from staff, volunteers, and the community. Some small schools don't have anyone raising money on their behalf.

Schools are encouraged to spend donated funds in general program areas that include literacy; student well-being; agriculture and hospitality; or STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math).
