Santa Rosa City Schools, Sonoma County’s largest public school district, welcomed students back on Wednesday, Aug. 13.

In total, nearly 65,000 students in Sonoma County’s 40 public school districts were expected at campuses as early as Monday, Aug. 11. A handful of districts are beginning classes the week of Aug. 18.

“There’s no feeling like the first day of school,” said Dr. Amie Carter, Sonoma County superintendent of schools. Carter oversees the Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE), whose employees are spread across the county this week in support of local schools.

“The energy on campus as we welcome in students and families, and see all of the hard work our teachers put in to get their classrooms ready, is tremendous,” Carter said. I’m looking forward to a wonderful year filled with connection and learning.”
