The Great Literacy Adventure

Sponsored by the Sonoma County Office of Education in partnership with Northern California Public Media

Sonoma County children and families are invited to The Great Literacy Adventure, a free, countywide celebration of reading and learning rooted in the Sonoma County Literacy Promise

This joyous, daylong event at NorCal Public Media brings together families, community partners, and dynamic literacy advocates — from beloved PBS characters to nationally recognized authors — for a joyful, inclusive literacy experience with more than 15 activities for children. Literacy Promise partners will be on hand to connect families with resources and tips for promoting reading at home.

Event Details

When: 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, April 11
Where: Northern California Public Media, 311 Professional Center Drive, Rohnert Park
Who: Families with children, educators, and community partners from Sonoma County
Cost: Free, but registration is encouraged to help plan the event
Parking: Free at the nearby Kaiser Permanente building, 5900 State Farm Drive

Sonoma County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Amie Carter, the Sonoma County Office of Education, and NorCal Public Media are proud to sponsor and host the Great Literacy Adventure from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, at NorCal Public Media in Rohnert Park.

NorCal Public Media is a partner and host of The Great Literacy Adventure on Saturday, April 11, in Rohnert Park. Beloved PBS characters Buddy the Dinosaur and Carl the Collector will appear at the event.

Event Highlights

Some of the highlights being planned include:

  • Buddy the Dinosaur and Carl the Collector from PBS Kids
  • Otto the Otter from the Sonoma County Library
  • Literacy Quest for the Great Scholastic Book treasure chest (free books while supplies last)
  • Live storytimes with special guest readers
  • Book signings by authors including Matthew Gollub and Marissa McGee
  • “On air” and “green screen” experiences in the KRCB studios make children the stars of radio- and video-style segments
  • Visit a firetruck and crew from Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Fire
  • Food available for purchase from local food trucks Sol Azteca, World Famous Corndogs, and Kona Ice
  • Engaging literacy experiences hosted by the Sonoma County Literacy Promise partners
  • And so much more!
