A woman holds up a brightly colored jacket

Youth who are in foster care or experiencing homelessness will receive about 300 jackets, thanks to a generous grant from Impact 100 Redwood Circle, a philanthropic group of women devoted to improving Sonoma County! Members of our Student Support Services & Accountability team distributed the jackets to school districts this week to meet the needs of our local unhoused student population.

"One of our aspirations is to ensure that every child has access to a warm coat during winter,” said Joanna Paun, SCOE’s foster and homeless youth education services coordinator. “This is not just about keeping them warm; it’s about providing them with the dignity and confidence that comes from having adequate winter clothing. By investing in these basic supplies and expanding our resources, we can create a more supportive environment that not only addresses immediate needs but also fosters long-term academic and personal growth for our children and their families."

Year-round, the department Paun leads provides school districts, families, and community partners with technical support, school supplies, and other items to meet their most basic needs, including backpacks, hygiene kits, blankets, and refurbished technology.

SCOE is thankful for Impact 100’s efforts to make a difference in the lives of some of our region’s most vulnerable students.
