This CoP will provide a supportive space for leaders to:

  • Reflect deeply on their practice as anti-racist equity leaders
  • Connect and collaborate with other women site leaders across the region
  • Build leadership capacity through professional learning and equity-centered tools

  • Laying the Foundation for an Equitable Curriculum Adoption - Key considerations and strategies for planning a successful curriculum adoption and how centering the needs of multilingual learners leads to better curriculum choices for all learners.

  • Forming Teams & Defining Evaluation Standards: Building an effective and representative adoption team and preparing your criteria for evaluation

November 19, 2025

  • Evaluating Curricula Using your Criteria: Norming, calibrating, and comparing and moving beyond making decisions based on surface level features to identify curricular features that actually support students and teachers.

December 10, 2025

  • Adoption and Beyond: Making the final curriculum adoption decision, identifying who should be included in the decision-making process, and planning for implementation and next steps after adoption

January 14, 2026

  • Session for Consultation: An opportunity for personalized, district specific consultation—allowing participants to ask questions, seek clarification, and receive targeted guidance.

Kevin Deutsch will lead this professional learning series to deepen the understanding of Building Thinking Classrooms in mathematics. Through focused in-person sessions, participants will explore key strategies and instructional practices that foster student engagement, collaborative problem-solving, and deep mathematical thinking.

Leaders will learn how to observe and recognize effective thinking classroom moves, develop a clear lens for instructional observation, and provide meaningful feedback that supports teachers in cultivating thinking-centered learning environments. Grounded in research-based practices, this series prepares administrators to lead and advocate for highquality math instruction across school sites.

October 8, 2025

  • Foundations of Building Thinking Classrooms: Explore the core principles and instructional routines of Building Thinking Classrooms, and begin developing an observational lens for identifying key strategies in action.

January 28, 2026

  • Observing and Supporting Thinking Classrooms: Learn to identify and interpret student and teacher actions that signal effective implementation. Focus on how to provide timely, constructive feedback that supports teacher growth.

March 11, 2026

  • Sustaining and Leading a Thinking Classroom Culture: Discover strategies for scaling and sustaining thinking centered practices across grade levels and school sites. Reflect on leadership moves that promote long-term instructional change.

Leo Kostelnik will lead an in-depth exploration of the 2023 CA Mathematics Framework, highlighting best practices and resources to enhance instruction and ensure access for multilingual learners and other diverse student groups. This professional learning series will provide both theoretical knowledge and practical strategies for implementing equitable, language-rich mathematics instruction aligned with the Framework.

Participants will develop a shared vision for effective math teaching, strengthen leadership and coaching skills, and support educators in integrating content, pedagogy, and technology. The series emphasizes equity through inclusive practices that foster positive math mindsets, affirm student identity, and build on the linguistic and cultural assets of multilingual learners, while engaging in collaboration to sustain meaningful implementation.
