The EL Parent Leadership Institute is an annual workshop dedicated to empowering parents of English learners. Participants will also learn about free resources and services offered for families in Sonoma County. Districts are encouraged to send members of their English Learner Parent Advisory Committees, as well as any other parents of English Learners who are interested.

Este taller virtual es gratis y es para todos los padres de estudiantes de inglés y se llevará a cabo en español.
El Instituto de Liderazgo de Padres Aprendices de Ingles es un taller anual dedicado a empoderar los padres de estudiantes de ingles. Los participantes también aprenderán sobre los recursos y servicios gratuitos que se ofrecen a las familias en el condado de Sonoma. Animamos a los distritos de enviar miembros de sus comites asesores de Padres de ingles, y a otros padres de Estudiantes de ingles que esten interesados.

Keynote / Orador Principal: Betzy Picazo Chávez
Título: Orgullo, Cultura, y Resiliencia/ Title: Pride, Culture and Resilience
Nacida en el estado de México, hija de padres migrantes e indocumentados, Betzy Picazo Chávez ha vivido su vida entre dos culturas. En este discurso de apertura, compartirá las formas en que su profundo sentido de orgullo por su cultura e identidad la han moldeado positivamente y le han dado fuerza durante tiempos difíciles. Como madre trabajadora con cuatro hijas, Betzy cree que todo comienza en el hogar y no importa que difíciles puedan ponerse las cosas ella adopta la mentalidad de: ¡SÍ SE PUEDE!
Born in the Mexican state of Mexico, the daughter of migrant and undocumented parents, Betzy Picazo Chávez has lived her life between two cultures. In this keynote, she will share the ways in which her deep sense of pride in her culture and identity have positively shaped her and given her strength during challenging times. As a working mother to four daughters, Betzy believes that everything starts in the home and no matter how difficult things can get, she embraces the YES YOU CAN mindset (SÍ SE PUEDE)!

Title: Knowledge is Power: Understanding Important Topics That Impact English Learners
When parents have more information, they are better equipped to advocate for their children in school. This session will help parents of English learners to understand critical topics that impact their children such as ELPAC, ELD, Reclassification, and Long Term English Learners (LTELs).

Cuando los padres están bien informados, tienen mejores herramientas para abogar por sus hijos en la escuela. Título: Prácticas informativas sobre el trauma y fomento de la resiliencia para familias y educadores / Informative practices on trauma and building resilience for families and educators.
Este taller es sobre atención informada sobre el trauma; guiará a las familias desde bebés a jovencitos para comprender el trauma y su impacto en el cerebro, el comportamiento, el aprendizaje y el desarrollo de los hijos. Aprenderán estrategias sensibles al trauma para crear entornos que apoyen la salud, la curación y la capacidad de recuperación de los hijos (desarrollado por: The Center for Optimal Brain Integration).
This workshop on Trauma-Informed Care will guide families and educators from infancy to adolescence to understand trauma as well as its impact on young children's brains, behavior, learning, and development. You will learn trauma-sensitive strategies to create environments that support children's health, healing, and resiliency (developed by, The Center for Optimal Brain Integration).
