Bridging the Gap: Demystifying College Math Expectations
Wondering what our high school students need to thrive in college math? Join us for this two part series that will bridge the gap between high school math preparation and postsecondary expectations. In partnership with SCOE and the California Math Project, we’re bringing together UC, CSU and SRJC math professors, as well as administrators, teachers, and community partners, to discuss and collaborate on how we can best support our students' success in postsecondary education.
- Part 1 (March 10, 2025): This session will initiate a dialogue about the transition from high school to college math. Key topics include recent policy changes such as AB 705 and AB 1705, evolving UC requirements for math (including validation of Algebra 2/Math III), and strategies to prepare high school students for success in college-level mathematics. The session will feature a panel of experts that includes: Dr. Jen Carlin-Goldberg (SRJC, Mathematics), Dr. Ben Ford (SSU Mathematics), Dr. Chris Ograin (UCSB, Mathematics)
- Part 2 (March 31, 2025): Building on our earlier discussion, we will continue exploring strategies to support high school students in mathematics. This session will focus on how high school mathematics programs can better align with the requirements of post-secondary math to promote student success.
This is a great opportunity to understand what colleges expect from high school math programs and how we can work together to ensure students are prepared for the next step in their education.
