Common Core Mathematics Instruction, South County Series
The Common Core State Standards in Mathematics (CCSS-M) are an opportunity to move classroom instruction forward in a meaningful way. But if all we do is change the standard at the top of the board or in our lesson plan, we really haven’t changed anything.
During this series of professional development sessions, we will highlight the resources, ideas, and tools that are essential to improving instruction and making a successful transition to the Common Core Standards in our classrooms. Each session will consist of a presentation on a particular component and a “homework assignment” for taking the idea back to the classroom. We will debrief the idea at the next session, then introduce the next topic. The components for this series will include performance tasks, formative assessment, re-engagement lessons, diagnostic lessons, and conceptual lessons.
Our intent is to upgrade the current toolbox for instruction, not re-invent everything we do. Come join us as we explore the shifts in instruction that will engage our students in the CCSS-M!
