Northern California Project-Based Learning (PBL) Improvement Academy

The Northern California Project-Based Learning (PBL) Improvement Academy provides an opportunity for teacher teams to deepen their understanding of high-impact project design, and to participate in a networked community designed to improve individual and systemic behaviors and processes to better support PBL. In addition to in-depth exploration of the core instructional practices that make high-quality PBL manageable and effective, the academy will introduce improvement science techniques to help teams asses their projects’ impacts on both student engagement and educator mindsets.

Participating teams will visit exemplary sites where they will see high-quality PBL practices in action. Teams will also collaborate with industry or community partners to design integrated project-based learning experiences that engage students in authentic challenges. Academy participants will benefit from on-site coaching support around project implementation and will be supported in developing work-based learning opportunities that serve as instructional strategies in the context of the projects they develop.

Participation in the PBL improvement Academy makes teacher teams eligible for preferred application status for the paid Summer Teacher Externship program.
