SCOE Virtual Summer Institute 2020 | Week 1

DISRUPT 2020

Designing Instruction & Supporting Responsive, User-focused Plans Together

Summer Institute 2020 Logo

Over the past 8 years, the Sonoma County Office of Education has hosted a teaching and learning summer institute to allow school and district teams to think deeply about transforming learning experiences for students. Now, more than ever, we have a clear and compelling mandate to reimagine what’s necessary and possible for TK-12 education. Together, we can ensure all of our students develop the curiosity, empathy, communication, collaboration, ethics and initiative they will need to navigate their future.

To prepare for the uncertainty of the 2020-21 academic year, SCOE’s ESS team will offer a virtual learning institute for teachers and administrators to explore, elevate, and celebrate the innovations in teaching and learning that we’ve embraced because of, not in spite of, the COVID19 crisis. Just as schools made the rapid transition to remote teaching and learning this spring, we are reimagining the learning institute to seize this unprecedented opportunity to positively disrupt our educational systems.

This year’s institute will be conducted virtually on both July 28th-30th and August 4th-6th. We’ll provide the same institute experience twice, over two consecutive weeks, to offer participants flexibility and choice while accommodating as many participants as possible. There is no cost to participate and teacher stipends are available for Sonoma County teachers to support collaboration and implementation post-Institute.

We sincerely hope that you and members of your district will make plans to join us for this reimagined Institute.
