COVID-19 UPDATE FOR THE 2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR

CDPH Health Guidance for TK-12 Schools was updated July 11, 2024.

  • There are no major changes to the communicable disease mitigation measures.
  • The guidelines provide general prevention strategies to reduce the spread of communicable disease (including COVID-19).
  • The infectious period has been re-defined as starting 1 day (24 hours) before start of symptoms, or test date if asymptomatic.

The Cal/OSHA COVID-19 Prevention Non-Emergency Regulations remain in effect for employees and contractors.

  • The regulations are expected to expire on February 3, 2025.

SCOE GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS

Employees, contractors and students experiencing illness are requested to stay home and test for COVID-19. Test kits are available at your worksite. If the test is negative but you have been recently exposed to COVID, and/or if symptoms are concerning, please check with your supervisor before returning to work.

SCOE requires that all COVID-19 cases be reported as soon as possible.

Employees Illness

Employees who test positive are required to stay home until symptoms are resolved or resolving and they are fever-free without use of medication for 24 hours. When returning to work, wearing a mask is required for 10 days following the start of symptoms, or the test date if asymptomatic. Employees will receive a letter with specific guidelines.

  • Non-classroom employees should contact their Supervisor or AOS as soon as possible so that contact tracing can be done, and to submit a Report Form.
  • Classroom employees should contact their Supervisor, Principal, or Classroom Coordinator as soon as possible so that contact tracing can be done, and to submit a Report Form. Classroom employees who work with medically sensitive students will be required to stay home for a 5 - 10 day period.

Employee Exposure

Employees who have been identified as exposed to a COVID-positive SCOE employee or student will receive a notification with information about the exposure.

  • Non-classroom employees are recommended to monitor for symptoms and consider wearing a mask. If symptoms develop, they are required to test. If the test is positive, they are required to stay home and notify their Supervisor or AOS right away.
  • Classroom employees are recommended to monitor for symptoms and consider wearing a mask. If symptoms develop, they are required to test. If the test is positive, they are required to stay home and notify their Supervisor, Principal or Classroom Coordinator right away. Classroom employees who work with medically sensitive students are required to test and wear a mask.

Student Illness

Students who test positive are recommended to stay home until symptoms are resolved or resolving and they are fever-free without use of medication for 24 hours. When returning to school, wearing a mask is encouraged but not required. The student’s Parent or Guardian should contact their child’s teacher or principal as soon as possible so that contact tracing can be done, and to submit a Report Form.
