Questions/Answers Regarding CB ELPAC

The following questions were generated by the EL Collaborative and the brainstorming group focused on the transition to the CB ELPAC. Please see below for answers from the CDE.

When is the anticipated release date of timing of administration for each domain?

A table with estimated times for administration will be available on elpac.org and in the Summative ELPAC Directions for Administration (found in TOMS) in January.

What are the time limits on pausing?

For all domains, there is a 20 minute time limit on pausing. If a pause is less than 20 minutes, the test may be resumed without logging in the student again, and any answers submitted can be updated. If a student’s Listening or Reading test is paused for 20 minutes or more, the student testing device will need to be logged in again in order to resume testing, and any answers submitted before the pause cannot be changed. In the Writing domain, pausing for 20 minutes or more allows you to resume and update writing. Writing response boxes may be left blank.

Is there a stopping point in each domain when a child is unable to continue? How does an examiner stop?

There are stopping markers for the Speaking domain of the Summative ELPAC in all grades. There are stopping markers in Listening, Reading and Writing for Grades K-2.  If a student is not able to continue the test, the Test Examiner can select the Pause button and log out of the testing interface.

Can you order/purchase DFAs or only print them?

Directions for Administration will be available on TOMS for download. LEAs may elect to order printed DFAs as a fee-based service. Ordering information will be posted soon.

Can you have scratch paper in the writing domain?

Scratch paper is a universal tool available to students in all domains. In the Writing domain, scratch paper may be used to pre-write or take notes. All scratch paper must be collected and securely destroyed after each test administration.

More information on SEIS reports that include ELPAC information:

They are currently working with the State SELPA Forms Committee on how the ELPAC section of the Statewide Assessment form should be updated.  There is no current ETA on when this will be done, however, it is in the works.
