Classified Summer Assistance Program
01/28/2019 - SCOE is pleased to offer a benefit for classified employees who work less than 12 months a year. The program is being offered on a one-time basis by the California Department of Education and allows eligible employees to elect to withhold up to 10 percent of their regular monthly pay during the 2019-20 school year. The program will provide state matching funds up to one dollar ($1) for each dollar that you elect to withhold. If you participate, you can elect to receive payment of your contribution and the amount matched by the state in one or two payments in the summer of 2020.
To be eligible to participate in this program, you must:
- work less than 12 months/year
- Earn less than twice the state minimum wage for full-time employees (threshold determined by employer);
- Be employed by SCOE for at least one year as of March 1, 2019;
- Submit an enrollment form to the SCOE Payroll Department by March 1, 2019.
It is important to note the following:
- State matching funds are not considered creditable compensation for CalPERS purposes.
- You may elect a dollar amount to be withheld from your regular pay that must be less than 10% of your regular pay.
- The state match may not be dollar for dollar; SCOE will be notified of the estimated state match by May 1, 2019.
- If your paycheck is in danger of being insufficient to cover the Classified Employee Summer Assistance Program deduction, the deduction will be cancelled.
- If you separate from employment with SCOE during the 2019-20 school year, you will be refunded your contributions but will not receive state matching funds.
- You may choose to cancel participation in this program no later than 30 days from the start of the 2019-20 school year.
