SCOE's VI Team Wins "Spirit of Education" Award
SCOE's VI Team, which serves students with visual impairments, has won the Spirit of Education Award. This prestigious award is granted each year by a SELPA committee to a group or educational program serving special education students within the county. The team was recognized "For their exemplary vision of integrated and inclusionary practices to support students who are visually impaired or blind." In particular, they were recognized for their use of adaptive technology to provide students access to their education within the classroom setting. They were also recognized for new and innovative ways of providing curriculum.
SCOE's VI specialists help students access core academics. They also provide training in the Expanded Core Curriculum, which helps the students be productive and valuable members of the community.
According to SELPA, "The VI Team not only has inclusionary practices in place, they also have visions of inclusion for the future." Congratulations to VI team on this honor!
