Latest Coronavirus update for staff
03/05/2020 - Dear SCOE Employees,
Cold and flu season is upon us and the health of our staff is of utmost importance. The California Department of Public Health reports that influenza (also known as the flu) activity levels have increased over the past several weeks. Now, the 2019-2020 flu season has been complicated by recent reports of Coronavirus.
We are monitoring the situation and working with state and local health officials, who will provide updated information about the diagnosis and management of cases of COVID-19, as applicable.
Information for SCOE Staff:
We will work closely with the health department to monitor the risk to Sonoma County residents and our staff. At this time, there is no need for SCOE to close or change everyday operations.
Please report to work as scheduled, unless you are sick, then remain home.
It is important that all staff members with fever (>100.4 F / >38C) should remain home from work and other activities until they have had no fever for 24 hours, without fever medication. If you are sick, remaining home will help protect others in the workplace. Please follow SCOE procedures for notifying your supervisor and reporting your absence.
Additionally, if you have been to China, Iran, Italy, or South Korea in the past two weeks, please notify your supervisor and follow the recommendation of CDC that requires you not return to work for 14 days from the day after you left the affected area. This will allow time for medical evaluations and to ensure the safety of everyone.
As with other respiratory illnesses, certain populations of children may be at increased risk of severe infection, such as children with underlying health conditions. SCOE staff working with medically fragile students and early childhood education staff should remain diligent in their efforts to monitor for signs of illness and ensure good hygiene in the classroom.
If you are sick and if you have questions regarding your attendance, please contact your supervisor.
If you need to take time off due to sickness or quarantine you can use any of these leaves: sick leave, comp time, vacation time, or personal necessity.
