Congratulations to Monica Huerta, Teacher of the Month

12/04/2019 -

Monica Huerta, an English and ELD teacher at Windsor High School has been named Sonoma County Teacher of the Month for November 2019.

The monthly award honors one of Sonoma County's most outstanding teachers from October through May. It is sponsored by the Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE), K-HITS 104.9, and Community First Credit Union (CFCU), with additional support from Platinum Chevrolet and Bernstein Orthodontics.

“We need high-quality, caring teachers now more than ever to help our students thrive in a complex and ever-changing world,” said Steven D. Herrington, Sonoma County Superintendent of Schools. “The Teacher of the Month program this year seeks to honor, support, and thank those teachers."

Numerous heartfelt nominations from students, parents, and colleagues alike poured in for Ms. Huerta this fall. Students described Ms. Huerta as a nurturing teacher who motivates her students, helping them thrive academically while providing a safe and supportive learning environment.

One student’s nomination read, “Ms. Huerta should be the teacher of the month because she is very understanding and treats her students like real people. Not only does she care about the well-being of her students, she also motivates us to do well in our school work. She deserves this award over any teacher.”

A delegation of representatives from SCOE, K-HITS, Bernstein Orthodontics, and Windsor High School surprised Ms. Huerta with the recognition during a staff meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Ms. Huerta was overcome with emotions when the honor was announced as she received a plaque, $600 classroom supply gift card, and $100 Target gift card.
