Human Resource Services

Our Mission: Through equitable practices and policies, the mission of the Human Resource Services Department of the Sonoma County Office of Education is to support, educate, and collaborate with employees, educators, and school communities to ensure the students of Sonoma County are served by the highest quality professionals.

SCOE’s Human Resource Services Department serves as a professional resource for districts regarding employment issues and is committed to providing services that help Sonoma County schools meet their human resources needs. If you are a SCOE employee, access employee information and resources here.

Administrator Recruiting

SCOE provides an administrator recruiting service for districts seeking principals and school boards seeking candidates to fill superintendent vacancies. We work collaboratively with contracting districts throughout the recruitment process to ensure that local needs are met and all stakeholders have input to the process. All administrative details – application processing, placement of advertisements, interview scheduling, reference checking – can be handled by SCOE staff. If a new administrator is selected for a district, SCOE can provide a mentor to ease the transition to this critically important role. Contact Greg Medici, (707) 524-2831 or gmedici@scoe.org for more information.

Credential Monitoring

As required by law, the credentials of all Sonoma County teachers and school administrators must be registered in the county where they are employed. Today, much of the credential registration process occurs electronically. For local educators who need assistance applying for or renewing credentials, SCOE houses an onsite Credentials office. Credential Analysts are also available to work with districts and charter schools to ensure that all employed teachers hold the proper credentials for their position. Training and technical assistance on credentialing issues are available.

Fingerprinting

SCOE's LiveScan Fingerprinting Service ended June 30, 2025. Substitute Consortium, volunteers and district new hires will be directed to an outside fingerprinting vendor. For additional Sonoma County live scan locations, please click on the link to the CA DOJ. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Substitute Teacher Registration

The Human Resources department maintains a centralized substitute teacher database and individuals interested in substitute teaching in Sonoma County must register at SCOE. Applicants must hold a current, valid teaching credential or obtain an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Permit. Information sessions are held to explain the permit process and other requirements for substitute teaching. See our Substitute Teaching resource page for more information. Questions may be directed to: subs@scoe.org.
