SCOE Connects

What is it?

SCOE employees who do not have classroom duties have the opportunity to dedicate two hours a week, or eight hours in a month, serving in Sonoma County public schools and SCOE programs.

We created the SCOE Connects program to give SCOE employees, particularly those who primarily work in office settings, more contact with the students and schools that we serve.

Employees who have regular, direct contact with students on a weekly basis won’t be eligible for this service program. Other positions may be excluded based on responsibilities or other factors.

The service hours must be pre-approved by a supervisor and have minimal impact on the employee’s work responsibilities. This will be time paid by SCOE.

What type of service work can I participate in?

A variety of activities will qualify for this program, including but not limited to the following:

  • assisting in a classroom
  • organizing/assisting with a club at a local school
  • using all eight hours in one month to assist with a field trip
  • Walk-a-thon, book fair and other event help
  • playground supervision

What else should I know?

Travel time will be factored into the service hour weekly/ monthly count. Schools may require SCOE employees to meet specific orientation or training requirements prior to beginning their service hours.

If an employee plans to drive with students in the car (field trip, etc.), they will have to go through the school district’s process for approval. Employees will be required to introduce themselves to site administrators, wear their SCOE badge and appropriate visitor badges throughout their time on campuses.

Data collection will be an important component of this program. Employees will be required to log their service hours so our organization has a clear grasp of the scope and reach of this program.

I want to participate. What are the next steps?

Employees who would like to participate in this program should contact their supervisor with their service idea for pre-approval.

If you are looking for general service opportunities, please review this spreadsheet of schools who would love for you to dedicate some of your time.

Once approved, the employee will enter their absence in Frontline as SCOE Connects and fill out the Google Form.
