We provide leadership and support for high school career education that is academically rigorous and aligned with workforce preparation needs

Today’s students are the workforce of tomorrow, but are they being readied for the jobs they’ll need to fill? Are there ways that schools and the community can work together to ensure that students have opportunities to formulate career goals and prepare for eventual entrée into the workforce?

SCOE brings students, teachers, and employers together to strengthen and develop the relationship between what’s being taught in the classroom and its application in the workplace. We offer vocational and technical skills training for high school students, assist schools with vocational counseling and job placement services, and provide support for employers seeking well-qualified employees. Our primary goal is to develop and support high school initiatives aimed at producing a skilled workforce for Sonoma County. Our work in these areas is strongly linked to local workforce development initiatives and the All Youth, One System effort.

Through our Regional Occupational Program (ROP), we offer job training classes at every comprehensive high school in the county. High school juniors and seniors take ROP classes during the regular school day to earn elective credit and learn skills they can apply in future work situations. Classes are available in the nine industry sectors that the Sonoma County Economic Development Board has identified as key for our county's growth and prosperity.
