Sonoma County Office of Education

Culturally Responsive Pedagogy

Summer Institute

The Sonoma County Office of Education is seeking highly motivated teachers to participate in the 2024-25 SCOE Culturally Responsive Pedagogy Summer Institute and continued collaboration. This Institute provides educators with engaging, hands-on training and collaborative opportunities to develop a deep understanding of culturally responsive pedagogy. The Culturally Responsive Summer Institute aims to enhance educators' awareness, understanding, and implementation of culturally responsive teaching practices.

This opportunity will support educators with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to create inclusive and equitable learning environments that honor and celebrate the diversity of students and their backgrounds.

This two week Summer Institute is now offering three strands to choose from!

Ethnic Studies for 4th Grade Educators
This strand will center on 4th grade California history, exploring diverse perspectives, inclusive narratives, and culturally responsive teaching.

Ethnic Studies for Middle and High School Educators
This strand will center on examining the strategies and rationale that underpin the pedagogical approach and practical application of teaching ethnic studies in secondary education. Curriculum development will also focus on BIPOC groups.

Grading for Equity for Secondary Educators
This strand will explore equitable grading practices while fostering collaborative discussions to redesign grade books and equip educators with practical tools for implementation.
