Expository Reading and Writing Course (ERWC) for High School Teachers
This workshop, designed for high school English teachers, will provide an introduction to the materials in California State University’s Expository Reading and Writing Course (ERWC). Registration is free for teachers who complete the 4-day, 24-hour ERWC workshop.
Aligned with the California Common Core State Standards, the ERWC emphasizes the in-depth study of expository, analytical, and argumentative reading and writing. These rich and adaptable resources, developed by a collaborative group of university and high school faculty members, are designed to help diverse students develop the academic and rhetorical literacy skills necessary for success in college, career, and community. The 12th grade course can be offered as a UC approved A-G course.
Teachers attending this workshop will receive both professional development and resources: course materials and other professional books; lessons to prepare students to meet expectations in college-level classes; strategies for helping students read and write rhetorically; and an opportunity to calibrate school- and college-level expectations.
