Take part in America’s PrepareAthon

04/30/2014 - PrepareAthon Today – April 30, 2014 – is the first national day of action for America’s PrepareAthon. SCOE is part of the National Preparedness Community that is sponsoring this event and we encourage all employees join the effort to increase emergency preparedness and resilience. Take part by visiting www.ready.gov/prepare to learn what to do before, during, and after disasters.

Last year was an important reminder to all of us that disasters can strike anytime and anywhere. Nearly every region of the country experienced some form of extreme weather event, including tornadoes in Oklahoma, wildfires near Yosemite, and flooding in Colorado.

As with many life events, preparation is the key to success. When you prepare and practice for an emergency in advance, it makes a real difference in your ability to take immediate and informed action. Early action can also help you recover more quickly. It’s not a matter of if the next disaster will happen, but when. Simple steps such as practicing a quick exit strategy or discussing your after-disaster contact plan will help you become more prepared. Be smart, take part, and prepare for emergencies before they happen.
