CCSS and Arts Integration

Arts Integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process that connects an art form and another subject, meeting objectives in both content areas. Many teachers are using arts integration as a strategy for teaching 21st century skills and meeting the goals of the Common Core Standards.

Andrew Leonard, Board President
"The SCOE board is unique in that we are a direct interface between the County Office of Education and the community we serve. Not only does the Sonoma County Board of Education set policy for its alternative education program and serve oversight roles for SCOE, it also models innovative and successful public-private partnerships in the community. We see ourselves as a conduit for progress in education throughout the K-12 spectrum; SCOE staff and the board all work toward this goal together." - Andrew Leonard, Board President
