Math Teacher Leader Fellowship 2022-'23
Purpose: The expansive and beautiful nature of mathematics should be experienced by all students. Not only do all students need math, mathematics needs all students. Our collective future depends on this inclusive vision. In order to build the North Bay's capacity to deliver on this promise, our region is again offering a Math Teacher Leader Fellowship for the 2022-23 school year. Our work will emphasize mathematics instruction & leadership skills in classroom teachers across the K-12 spectrum.
Design: Teachers selected to be a part of this fellowship will meet 4 times in person, and attend 2 short zooms over the course of the 2022-23 school year.
The fellowship will provide provocative learning experiences that build instructional and leadership skills. Our work will emphasize teaching rigorous and meaningful mathematics in heterogenous groups as recommended by the new math framework. Additionally, we will focus on activating the mathematical agency of students who are far from justice, especially those whose racial identity is not represented in the dominant culture. This is complex work. Together we will examine our own practice and understand our role as informal and formal leaders in math education.
This program offers a stipend of $1,800 upon completion and full participation of the series.
