Leading for Equity - Communities of Practice (CoP) for Site and System Leaders

The 21CSLA is an opportunity for teacher leaders, site leaders, and system leaders to engage in high-quality professional learning that seeks to help education leaders create equitable systems of learning for California students. 21CSLA serves the five counties of Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, and Sonoma in the North Bay/North Coast region of the state. One of the key methods of providing this high-quality professional learning is via Communities of Practice (CoP’s). CoPs are small, sustained, and role-alike professional learning cohorts grounded in leadership for equity and improvement science.

We are offering new Communities of Practices (CoPs), that specifically focus on Site and System Leaders, whereby each track will "develop a shared repertoire of resources; experiences, stories, tools, ways of addressing recurring problems. Practitioners continue to initiate and facilitate the practice through sustained interaction with one another." (Wenger, 2002) Topics (each eligible to contribute to the requirements for your preliminary or clear administrative credential) will include:

  • Effective mentoring practices for Teachers of color and Indigenous Teachers
  • Family, School, and Community Engagement can improve student achievement and influence school reform
  • "Necessary but Not Sufficient: The Continuing Inequality between Men and Women in Educational Leadership, Findings from the American Association of School Administrators Mid-Decade Survey” (Robinson, Shakeshaft, Grogan, Newcomb, 2017)
  • Problems of practice (group members share relevant challenges and problem solve together)
  • Best Practices (All group members share best practices related to a given topic)

DATES: April 3rd; April 24; May 1; May 15; May 29
