Name:
Alejandra Solis-Pérez

Years at SCOE:
6 months

Job Title:
Student Engagement Liaison

How do you describe your job to people outside SCOE?
I get to support all schools in Sonoma County with strengthening relationship and community building skills through something called Restorative Practices, as well as support with the implementation of the YouthTruth Survey (a survey that students, staff, and families take that asks about what they think of their own school community).

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Sonoma. I attended and taught at Sonoma Valley USD.

Who was your favorite childhood teacher and why?
My favorite childhood teacher was Ms. Garcia. I loved that she spoke Spanish and could pronounce my name correctly. She also became friends with my parents and attended my birthday party that year (2nd grade). She taught my little sister in 5th grade, and now she is my brother’s Spanish teacher at SVHS. My brother says that she still asks about me!

What is your favorite thing about SCOE?
My favorite thing about SCOE is the people! Everyone is so friendly. I love working with people on team student.

What is one of your most memorable moments as a SCOE employee?
I have only been at SCOE for 6 months, so there really isn’t a super memorable moment. But it has been a memorable experience joining the SCOE team. Everyone made me feel welcomed and it didn’t feel awkward starting my new job.

Outside of work, what is your favorite hobby or way to unwind?
I LOVE to craft! I like to make custom gifts like ornaments, stickers, signs, cake toppers, cold drink cups, clay earrings, and more.

Do you have a favorite TV show, movie or book that involves a school setting?
I love crime dramas and two of my favorites that involve a school setting are "How to Get Away with Murder" and "Wednesday." And my favorite book is "A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder." I don’t think these are the types of answers I was supposed to write, but they do include school settings!

What is your favorite place in Sonoma County?
I don’t have a favorite place in Sonoma County yet! I am so glad that this job allows me to travel to school sites because I have actually been able to see more and more of Sonoma County.

What might people be surprised to learn about you?
I went to college as a music major and for a year was trained as a classical singer. I still do not like to sing in front of people though, only in my car.
