Statement on Supreme Court DACA Decision

06/19/2020 - Today’s ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court that sustains the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program was welcome news for our county, our state, and our nation.

Following is a statement from County Superintendent Steve Herrington on today's supreme court decision on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program:

Dreamers are an integral and valued part of our community, many of them teachers and students within our school system.

I hope that this ruling helps to ease the anxiety of individuals who have had to live in fear of deportation despite building their lives in this country, calling it home, and contributing to our collective good in countless ways.

I also want to affirm the right of every child, regardless of immigration status, to attend public school. You can learn more about the educational rights of immigrant families here: https://www.scoe.org/pub/htdocs/immigrant-rights.html.
