Response to State Changes to Social Distancing Requirements for Schools

03/22/2021 -

In response to new Centers for Disease Control guidelines about social distancing, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) on Saturday issued their updated guidance for schools.

Under these changes, schools will now be allowed to set up classrooms with a minimum of three feet of distance, rather than six, between student chairs. This is intended to provide schools and districts greater flexibility and options for bringing students back to in-person instruction.

Throughout the pandemic, SCOE has worked closely with the Sonoma County Department of Health Services to interpret and implement state guidance as it applies to the local conditions in our county. SCOE is meeting Dr. Mase and her team early this week to discuss these changes and what they mean for local schools. We will share an update at scoe.org once we know more.
