Teacher of the Month: Cassandra McMillen

04/26/2022 -

Cassandra “Cassie” McMillen, a physical education teacher at Technology High in Rohnert Park, has been named Sonoma County Teacher of the Month for March 2022.

The award honors one of Sonoma County's most outstanding teachers from October through May. It is sponsored by the Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE), K-Hits 107.9, HOT 101.7, and Community First Credit Union.

“So many teachers have stepped up in incredible ways to support students and families during these unprecedented times,” said Steven D. Herrington, Sonoma County Superintendent of Schools. “The Teacher of the Month program this year seeks to honor, support, and thank those teachers who have given so much of themselves and sacrificed so much to support students during the pandemic."

Ms. McMillen received a heartfelt nomination from a very appreciative parent. She was described as a beloved, caring, and dedicated teacher who positively impacts each of her students.

"When students and faculty alike long for your presence on campus, you know that is a teacher … who will have lasting impacts on the children's lives she touches 5 days a week. Cassie's dedication, care and concern for her students' health and hearts, is commendable and so worthy of recognition,” the nomination read.

Ms. McMillen was surprised with the honor by representatives from SCOE and K-Hits 107.9/HOT 101.7 on Wednesday, April 20, during her morning class. Ms. McMillen was left speechless by the unanticipated honor. She accepted the recognition with modesty and warmth. Ms. McMillen was given a special plaque and a $500 gift card for teacher resources and supplies as part of the recognition.
