Teacher Recognition Signs 2022As we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, May 2-6, Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE) is in the midst of a communitywide campaign to showcase some of the exemplary educators helping public school students navigate a third school year disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The campaign is sponsored by a number of community partners, including Community First Credit Union, Community Foundation Sonoma County, Exchange Bank, Redwood Empire School Insurance Group, Redwood Credit Union, Santa Rosa Junior College, and School & College Legal Services.

A series of posters celebrating how teachers and counselors go “above and beyond” for their students is running on the backs of Sonoma County Transit buses during April and May. The posters include photographs of educators chosen to represent their colleagues through nominations received through the Sonoma County Teacher of the Month program.

“As another challenging school year draws to a close, it’s important to let our educators know they are appreciated and their work is valued,” said County Superintendent of Schools Steve Herrington. “While our community has weathered multiple years of natural disasters, social upheaval and a deadly pandemic, teachers have shown remarkable adaptability and empathy, even as our schools have emerged as a flashpoint in the public debate over COVID safety measures.”
