SCOE & County Board stress firearm safety

08/18/2014 - Update – Today’s issue of the Press Democrat highlighted this initiative in its story, Some schools distributing firearms-safety fact sheet. In the article, County Board president Kathleen Willbanks explains why the Board developed the fact sheet. “We decided we have the resources, we have the ability to reach a lot of people, and if we can save one life, it’s so worth it,” she said. Firearms Safety Fact Sheet07/22/2014 – The Sonoma County Office of Education and Sonoma County Board of Education believe that firearm safety is of crucial importance for students, families, schools, and communities. To support firearm safety in Sonoma County, the County Board prepared a parent letter and Firearm Safety Fact Sheet for inclusion in school district registration packets. SCOE forwarded the material to all districts and urged superintendents to distribute the documents with their registration packets.
