Tablet Accessory Suggestions

TabletThe use of tablets is on the rise in many schools. Educators are acquiring new tablet technologies—iPad, Kindle Fire, Nexus 7, or other Android tablets—as part of their basic classroom teaching tools. Tablets are also being acquired in sets for student learning activities. The utility and value of tablets can be extended through various accessories. This blog post offers some ideas for accessorizing tablets to maximize their use and ensure protection.

Cases

It’s a good idea to protect your tablet with some kind of case. There are at least three different types of cases available. The type of case that’s right for you will depend on your planned use. When selecting a case, make sure that it fits correctly and provides access to power buttons, charging ports, the camera lens, volume controls, and related accessories.

A portfolio is a flat case with a ‘flap’ that flips open to provide access to your tablet. The flap ensures additional protection to your screen when the tablet is not in use. Possibilities include:

A shell holds the device and protects the back and tablet edges. It leaves the screen open and is good for quick access. Possibilities include:

An envelope is a type of case that protects the device when it is not in use; the user slides the device out of the envelope when it is going to being used. No protection is afforded when the device is being used. Possibilities include:

Screen covers are transparent adhesive covers that protect a tablet’s screen. They can be difficult to apply. Check out instructions on how to apply the screen cover prior to purchasing them. Possibilities include:

Keyboards

A variety of keyboards can be purchased for tablets. Some keyboards are wired to a device through one of tablet ports, others are connected via Bluetooth. Bluetooth keyboards can be difficult to pair with sets of student tablets; wired keyboards are more desirable. Possibilities include:

If you want to listen to audio recordings from your tablet and not disturb others, headphones are an important addition to consider. The audio quality of music, audiobooks, podcasts, and movies can be greatly enhanced with headphones. Possibilities include:
