Choral Counting and Counting Collections Regional Launch 2024
This is not a curriculum training, but a mindset shift in how we approach TK-Grade 5 mathematics using the following resources as our guide: Choral Counting and Counting Collections, Young Children's Mathematics, and the Young Children's Mathematics Cognitively Guided Instruction in Early Childhood Education. What we have found in our collective learning is that elementary teachers are trying to build student agency in mathematics, but do not always know how to be assets based on their approach. These strategies and specific practices not only strengthen student agency, but builds the teachers' understanding on how to intentionally support learners in a developmental supportive approach.
Over the three days of the Institute we will:
-
Develop our ability to diagnosis where are students are in the mathematical progressions (Counting and Cardinality and Algebraic Thinking K-5)
-
Deepen our knowledge of how mathematic concepts develop/progress in the age/grade-level span (2023 Mathematics Framework, Chapter 6)
-
Anticipate learner variability as the norm and continue to create opportunities for students to develop and communicate their mathematical ideas.
-
Explore ways to support each student in their mathematical development.
