2019 Summer Teacher Externships: Mandatory Orientation

Spend some time with colleagues at a local place of business this summer to see how adults use the standards you teach—"in the wild!"

A summer externship is an opportunity to observe, investigate, and develop the connections between your academic content standards and the daily operations of a local business. Teams of 2-3 middle or high school teachers will be partnered with a Sonoma County business to discover what their content standards look like “in the wild,” and to create an authentic performance task for students analogous to what adults do in the workplace. Teacher teams will also learn about the technical requirements for employment in the selected industry as well as the collaborative “soft skills” needed to be successful in that particular career.

Applications are now being accepted for this paid professional development experience. Attending one of the two mandatory orientation sessions is a requirement of the externships application process.
