Employee Spotlight: Tracy Church from SCLS

03/30/2020 -

Name: Tracy Church
Years at SCOE: 3 years in June.
Job Title: Legal secretary/paralegal
How do you describe your job to people outside SCOE? I specifically work for School & College Legal Services, which is related to SCOE but is a JPA with our own Board. Our office provides legal services to school districts, community colleges, and county offices of education throughout California. I provide support to a set group of several attorneys in my legal secretary role, and then to any attorneys who need paralegal help, such as with litigation.
Where did you grow up? NVarious places in Sonoma County, with a brief stint in Bend, Oregon.
Who was your favorite childhood teacher and why? ? Mrs. Hulmer, my second grade teacher. She was always so warm and inviting, which was so helpful and important to a painfully-shy 7 year old!
What is your favorite thing about SCOE? The people – everyone is so nice and helpful.
What is one of your most memorable moments as a SCOE employee? I love going to all of the events – Back to School, holiday parties, etc. It’s nice to get to see everyone and have fun and experience that camaraderie.
Outside of work, what is your favorite hobby or way to unwind? My husband and I are big hikers. We go as often as we can, bringing our teenagers as often as they’ll come. I also enjoy spending time with my family and my two dachshunds, Rusty and Buddy.
What is your favorite place in Sonoma County? Annadel. It’s so beautiful with so many options for hiking.
What might people be surprised to learn about you? I’ve volunteered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation for the past 6 years as a “Wish Granter.” I love meeting these kids and their families and helping to craft the perfect wish for them. Seeing the joy in such a bleak time in their lives is the best and I love that I can be a part of that joy.
