Congratulations to Teri Boronkay, Teacher of the Month

10/16/2019 -

Teri Boronkay Teri Boronkay, a third grade teacher at Penngrove Elementary in Petaluma City Schools District, has been named Sonoma County Teacher of the Month for October 2019.

The monthly award honors one of Sonoma County's most outstanding teachers from October through May. It is sponsored by the Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE), K-HITS 104.9, and Community First Credit Union (CFCU), with additional support from Platinum Chevrolet and Bernstein Orthodontics.

“Sonoma County schools are home to world-class teachers who help shape the future of our community,” said Steven D. Herrington, Sonoma County Superintendent of Schools. “The Teacher of the Month program this year seeks to honor, support, and thank those teachers."

Ms. Boronkay received dozens of enthusiastic nominations in the first month of the 2019-20 Teacher of the Month program.

"Ms. Boronkay epitomizes everything we hope our child's teacher will be when we nervously send them off to school each year," wrote one parent who nominated Ms. Boronkay. "She is kind and gentle, compassionate and caring, yet firm and unafraid to discipline when necessary. She takes such a hands-on approach to teaching that she, inevitably, becomes part of each students' 'village.'"

Another nomination wrote, "She goes above and beyond the standard curriculum and teaching the students humanity, culture, diversity, acceptance, and compassion. She is very emotional about her subjects and teaches from the heart. She incorporates art into their schedule every day. And she is one of the funniest teachers at Penngrove."

A delegation of representatives from SCOE, and KHITS surprised Ms. Boronkay with the recognition at a school assembly on Wednesday, October 16.

Ms. Boronkay also received a plaque and $600 classroom supply gift card.
