Congratulations to John Menth, Teacher of the Month

John Menth, a sixth-grade teacher at San Miguel Charter School in Mark West Union School District, has been named Sonoma County Teacher of the Month for October 2020.

The monthly award honors one of Sonoma County's most outstanding teachers from October through May. It is sponsored by the Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE), K-HITS 104.9, and Community First Credit Union (CFCU).

“So many teachers have stepped up in incredible ways to support students and families during these unprecedented times of distance learning,” said Steven D. Herrington, Sonoma County Superintendent of Schools. “The Teacher of the Month program this year seeks to honor, support, and thank those teachers who have gone above and beyond to support students during the shelter-in-place."

Mr. Menth received a number of enthusiastic nominations from parents, colleagues, and students alike. They described him as a dedicated teacher who maintains a robust curriculum despite the challenges of distance learning.

Mr. Menth accepted the recognition with grace and humor. He spoke of his love for teaching and the San Miguel Charter School community. He even shared that he attended the school when he was a child, which makes teaching there all the more rewarding.

from SCOE and KHITS honored Mr. Menth over a virtual staff meeting held Thursday, November 5. Many of his colleagues were present and offered kind words of celebration and gratitude. He will also be given $500 worth of gift cards for teacher resources and supplies.
